The Hive - Initial Set design
This may or may not be the general thoughts behind my set design in the end, for my production of The Hive. What the picture doesn't do very well, is show the height/ claustrophobia I hope to create with the boxes. These boxes will be moved by the cast during the play, to create different places. Some will have flaps that will reveal different surfaces. Some will have faces made of material, as pictured, with lights inside the boxes, lighting through the material. Some will be large enough for an actor to get inside, some much smaller. All will have handles etc. The colours will be mechanical and dingy, a run down machine with bits and pieces flaking, giving it a sense both of modernity, and decline. Like I mentioned in my blog, my picture just doesn't do the image in my head justice. But it's a small start.
